Understanding Change is a different way of seeing the world and the way we fit in it. It sees change as inevitable, continuous, and imperceptible until it precipitates – as a new situation or a new twist to an old situation, a new opinion, unkind word, or different expectation, an illness, pain, or untoward feeling.
logic-based management technique that examines personal productivity and performance as expressions of mental/emotional function and advocates that this must be developed purposefully. It does not purport to offer advice on or treatment of an existing medical condition. Rather, it aims to shift focus away from physical attributes toward mental function as a non-physical process. It works from the premise that mental function starts rudimentary at birth and builds through precise stimulation, not as a passive evolution. Therefore, it will suggest that dysfunction is not a flaw but an insufficiency or deprivation of stimulation, a necessary ingredient that is easier to get even if late than can a flaw be corrected even if early.
Understanding Change evolved from a combined examination of life, morality, performance and health using the disciplines of medicine (including neuropathology), physics (including chaos theory), philosophy (including noology), and spirituality (including theology). It was first applied as a therapeutic tool in a medical practice, then used as a management tool in addiction rehabilitation. Now it is used exclusively as a recovery stability tool enlightening participants on building, rebuilding, or strengthening the power of insight toward the understanding of a perpetually changing physical reality (including the body) and the stable, infinitely expandable mind.
In 2004, we opened the Prometheum Institute and had it registered with the Department of Colleges and Universities in Ontario offering its services as a direct teaching of the Understanding Change method of management to visitors. We call it Prometheum Institute in honor of the Greek god of wisdom who, in defiance to Zeus, stole fire from heaven and taught man to use it. We interpret fire as understanding, driving the ability to be responsible, accountable, and purposeful. Through it, we have seen and helped hundreds of clients restore and maintain the restoration of their lives even after severe criminal acts, heavy addiction, domestic abuse, and personal stress or depression. What is even more important is that our clients do not continue to seek our help. They do not just maintain a state of abstinence or basic survival. They have all gone on to higher learning, better job challenges, better management of family, and stimulating relationships. Many stay in touch with us, either by telephone, email, or regular mail. We want to make this available to anyone who has a desire to discover and enlighten themselves, not just stop a habit or simplify their life.
We now see Prometheum Institute as a provider of services, both in group and private presentations, and providing resources to other professionals in the field to use or reference the Understanding Change approach to personal management. We want to offer guidance to as many people as possible to become self-regulated adults with discernment, have a depth of vision as a unique force of intelligence that must be shaped and developed, and embrace a dedication to the realization and stimulation of that force as a modus vivendi (a way of life).
